There are so many Yogi's who have walked the same earth as you and I. I found that my life has improved manifold once I started reading their teachings.
1. Krishna I love reading the Bhagwad Gita, every time I read it, it brings forth different perspectives on the same situations and experiences of life, no matter which page and shloka I land upon, I can relate it to enough to make my perspective better.
2. Buddha I came across Buddhas teachings while learning Zen Buddhism, Vipassana and in Bharat Soka Gakkai. The most impactful for me was 'You shall reap what you sow' and the law of impermanence.
3. Jesus Christ I love the 10 commandments, and his teaching of forgiveness is so dear to me that its my phone wallpaper since a while now.
4. Rumi Rumi has helped me process and acknowledge separation and longing much better. There is a mystical connection that I feel with people and beings who I have loved even though they may not be there with me in my life right now. And I could finally see that in his teachings and writings which made me feel seen, heard and validated. Read The Essential Rumi to get started.
5. Sant Kabir His take on life, karma, will-power, practice is way ahead of all times and even though he was born in 1440, his teachings apply even to date.
6. Paramahansa Yogananda I have been blessed and fortunate to have come across Paramahansa Yogananda's teachings when I was 13, I still have those mini-books and remember that I used to be very fond of reading these. In 2020, I came across https://yssofindia.org/ and my life has changed ever since. Autobiography of a Yogi is a book which I highly recommend.
7. Jiddu Krishnamurthy Start with any video of his - I am sure you won't be able to stop at one. The Book of Life: Daily Meditations with Krishnamurti is a book I am currently reading and I also recommend Think on These Things.
8. BKS Iyengar Light on Yoga and Light on Life will make you aware about Yoga is and what it is not.
9. Swami Rama Living with the Himalayan Masters is the first time I read his teachings and since then I have been completely in awe and reverence with all his teachings.
10. Dalai Lama I was fortunate to feel his presence in my college in 2013 and listen to his talk, I love The Heart of the Buddha's Path by him and his FB page.
11. BK Shivani You can start by listening to her videos on YouTube, she is the one who popularised Raja Yoga meditation by Bhramavidya. I am fortunate to have listened to her live in 2019 and try to follow her teachings as much as I can.
