Excerpts from Rujuta Diwekar’s talk

Disclaimer: Never take anything you read on the net at face value. Go and look for the deeper truth. Rujuta is a celebrity nutritionist and I am not sure is she gives out her complete diet/ tricks of the trade for free. Cause why would more and more celebrities enroll for her program? Most of her advice makes sense and may improve your life but please remember nothing on the net is the absolute truth.

I got the opportunity to attend Rujuta Diwekar’s talk at a fest in the MMRDA ground BKC. And there I got to discover, that years back, she has learnt Yoga course where I am currently learning.

Apparently, she is the lady who has contributed to Anant Ambani’s transformational weight loss.

Rujuta firmly believes in eating local and traditional food.

She explains why – traditional food has stood the test of times and various recipes were developed by our grandmothers who are healthier than us way into their old age.

She said that the new concept of introducing non-traditional encourages us to buy new foods that are expensive and complicated for our body to process. Our body has developed intelligence to extract nutrients from the food we have been consuming since our childhood and suddenly succumbing to fads will confuse our body and it won’t be able to process the new food.

The fads were introduced for the mutual benefit of the food and pharmaceutical industry. Confusing people about what kind of diet is good for us makes us susceptible to try on new foods, i.e. a boom in the new and imported products the market is profiting off. This is followed by the illness or dis-ease by the lack of nutrition in the fad foods, i.e. a good chance to rip you off by the pharmaceutical industry. It becomes more and more difficult to believe ancient food wisdom by our grandmothers because neither they are aggressive marketers nor do they lure you to believing that traditional food is MAGIC.

On the other hand, local food has more than mere health benefits, local is cheaper than imported food and farmers also have a stable livelihood if people keep eating what they manufacture.

Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, and her family swear by Rutujas advice.

And these are the things Rujuta swears by:

Ingredients of panchamrit, khichdi, ghee, rice, coconut oil, kanji, and fresh and local fruits – banana(which is great for gut integrity), chikoo, sitaphal, jackfruit, mango etc.

She also mentioned that there is protein available in everything but to assimilate protein, we need to pay attention to eating. We need to sleep and wake up on time and be active throughout the day.

She does not recommend any external measures on portion control – i.e. someone else telling you how much you should eat. She recommends that you must eat in silence and involvement, and your body will tell you how much you need to eat. If you eat the right kind and combination of food, you will automatically feel hungry in 3 – 4 hours. As the previous meal has been digested well.
