Yoga and Life

Yoga teaches us about three main compositions of the mind/ body.

Tamas, Rajas and Sattva.

In the earlier times, people did not have the luxury of time to think as much as we do today and life was less complicated.

You had to go out to fill water, go out and buy groceries and pay bills. There were not too many “fast food” options, so you had to apply and involve yourself to cooking food at home. You had to physically go to book tickets even, whether it was for a movie, or for traveling.

There were so many things to be done with the body, people had to be on the move.

Today everything has become so convenient and so easy to just order everything with the mere click of a button, that all our movement has transferred into our heads; our minds.

Today, our mind has gone into Rajas mode where we want to do everything with our minds. Whether it is the incessant consumption of information, or it is about theoretically being the smartest person in the room. And our body has gone into a Tamasic mode where there is not much movement.

Mind you, technology is not a bad thing at all, because, (at least for now) it is lifeless. What matters is how we interact with technology.

And when technology was supposed to make our lives “easier”, we have just used it to make things physically convenient for us and have made our lives/ relationships more complicated.

We should never blame the external factors because the choice lies with us. Always – with how aware we are and what we choose to do with our awareness.

That is why, Yoga and Meditation are needed – to make us aware, to make us realize the richness of choices we have. And to construct the life and relationships we have always wanted, with consciousness.

That is why Yoga is needed, to still the mind and to move the body.
